The Heart Beat Machine  2013

The Synchronization of heartbeat. After researching, I could find some recent researches on the synchronization of heartbeat, which is usually seen in nature. Maybe by synchronizing one’s heartbeat with others, there is some amazing effect in it.

I am interested in the experience when one realizes his/her connections and association with the bigger collective either through physical or psychological means and then humbly admit his/her autonomy as no longer independent but carrying consequences. Maybe there are some fundamental areas to be explored in physical matters. Collective consciousness may be the idea without physicality, but what if such remote and distant experience can be brought to real life by emphasizing on achieving the connection physically? Previously I have the idea of projecting a condensed sum of lives from other people onto one person, but pure visual and aural stimuli may be too far away from my interest in the physicality.

Like breath, the pulse is also a reminder of now. As a sign of life-giving energy, the pulse rate is closely linked to our feelings. I investigate the intense presence that arises from sensing the pulse.

The input is one person’s heart rate collected by the pulse sensor. And the output would be a fake pumping heart (ballon) with the sound of pumping is synchronized with the real heart beat. Others who can touch the ballon are feeling the person’s heart beat directly by hand. And the other can be someone on the other side of the Earth, he does not know whose heart beat is this. The first contact would be not language or eye contact, is directly heart touching.

Heart is something that physiologically define our lives. But when does it no longer carries this connotation? What will it then means under the cultural and social context?
